Anduril FAQ
What is Anduril?
Anduril Industries is an American defense-technology company founded in 2017. It builds autonomous drones and vehicles, sensors, counter-drone and air-defense systems, missiles and rocket motors, and the Lattice software that connects them. It sells mainly to the U.S. military and allied governments.
Is Anduril a public company? Can I buy Anduril stock?
No. Anduril is privately held, so its shares do not trade on a stock exchange. It raised $5 billion at a $61 billion valuation in May 2026. Anduril's own investor-relations page warns about fraudulent offers of its shares; 'tokenized' or pre-IPO products are not Anduril stock.
Who owns Anduril?
Its founders, employees and venture investors. Publicly named investors include Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive Capital, Valor Equity Partners, General Catalyst, Lux Capital, 8VC and others. No single shareholder's stake is publicly disclosed.
Who founded Anduril, and who runs it?
Palmer Luckey (who founded Oculus VR), Trae Stephens, Brian Schimpf, Matt Grimm and Joe Chen founded it in 2017. Brian Schimpf is CEO; Palmer Luckey is the most public face of the company but is not the CEO.
Is Palmer Luckey the CEO of Anduril?
No. Brian Schimpf is CEO. Luckey is a co-founder and speaks for the company often, which is why many people assume he runs it.
What is Lattice?
Lattice is Anduril's software platform. It fuses data from sensors into one picture, helps commanders and operators make decisions, and lets one person direct many autonomous systems. It also runs on non-Anduril hardware through the Lattice SDK.
Does Anduril make weapons?
Yes. Alongside sensors and software, it makes interceptors (Roadrunner-M, Anvil), loitering munitions (Altius-600M/700M, Bolt-M), cruise missiles (Barracuda) and rocket motors, and its Fury jet is built for combat. Anduril's founders have argued openly that building weapons for the U.S. and its allies is the point of the company.
Are Anduril's weapons fully autonomous?
Anduril says its systems keep humans responsible for decisions to use lethal force, consistent with U.S. policy (DoD Directive 3000.09). Many systems navigate and track autonomously. Critics argue the line between 'human-authorized' and 'autonomous' gets thin as decision times shrink.
What countries use Anduril technology?
Publicly: the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, the Netherlands, and NATO (evaluation phase). It has partnerships or joint ventures involving Poland, Japan, South Korea and the UAE.
How does Anduril relate to Palantir?
They are separate companies with overlapping founders' networks (Trae Stephens worked at Palantir, and both are backed by Founders Fund). They partner often, for example on the Army's NGC2 and TITAN programs, and formed a consortium in December 2024 to bid together. They also compete in parts of the defense software market.
Where is Anduril based?
Headquarters is in Costa Mesa, California. Large sites include Arsenal-1 near Columbus, Ohio; a Long Beach, California campus; facilities in Atlanta and Rhode Island; and offices in Australia, the UK, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
How big is Anduril?
Anduril says 2025 revenue was about $2.2 billion, roughly double 2024. It is valued at $61 billion as of May 2026. Its revenue is still a fraction of the largest defense primes, which report tens of billions of dollars a year.
Why is it called Anduril?
Andúril is the sword reforged for Aragorn in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings; the name means 'Flame of the West'. Several Anduril-adjacent companies (Palantir, Mithril, Valar) also take Tolkien names.
Is AndurilNews.com affiliated with Anduril?
No. AndurilNews.com is an independent site that tracks public information about Anduril. It is not endorsed by or connected to Anduril Industries.
