What does it actually do?

Roadrunner is a small twin-jet aircraft that launches straight up from a box, flies out to identify or destroy aerial threats, and can land and be reused if it isn't needed. The armed version is Roadrunner-M. The pitch is cheaper air defense: you don't throw away an expensive missile every time you launch.

Technical detail

  • Twin turbojet, vertical take-off and landing, high-subsonic speed.
  • Modular payloads; Roadrunner-M carries a warhead for ground-based air defense.
  • Can return and land if the engagement is called off.
